Skye Muay Thai

Join Our Club Today!

Skye Muay Thai is a "not-for-profit" community martial arts club.

We are dedicated to offering authentic Muay Thai (Thai Boxing) classes to our community at affordable prices. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muay_Thai

All our instructors give their time free of charge and all money from classes and private lessons is used to pay for the lease of the gym premises and buy more equipment. Instructors take no personal payment whatsoever & also cover their own travel costs (from Staffin, Ratagan & Inverness).

This is how we manage to keep our prices low & make them accessible for everyone.

We do not offer expensive "gradings" or "belts" and there is no compulsory uniform or equipment to buy. As far as we're concerned belts are only good for holding up trousers - so if that's what you're looking for we're definitely not for you!

We teach and train exactly the same way that it's done in Thailand. We are registered with the UKMF http://www.ukmtf.com/

We are dedicated to providing an inclusive training environment and will not tolerate any form of discrimination - we provide training for anyone irrespective of race, gender, (dis)ability, sexual orientation........everyone is equal in a Muay Thai ring!!! Anyone showing disrespect for other club members will be asked to leave the club.

We can (and regulary do) adapt private lessons to cater for physical disabilities and we regularly recieve referrals from physiotherapists for rehabilitation training.

We rely on the support of members to help with fundraising for equipment - we have recently raised over £1000 to fit matted flooring to the gym by our instructors undertaking a sponsered 100 rounds of padwork each. Our members & parents also organised a raffle which was generously supported by local businesses & we organised an interclub sparring competition which was supported by gyms from Sheffield, Stornoway & Inverness.

We also rely on grants from charitable organisations - we have just secured a grant of £2000 from CalMac Ferries Community Fund https://www.calmac.co.uk/article/6939/Skye-Muay-Thai and have recieved donations from Skye Events for supplying marshalls at the Dunvegan 10K & Skye Half Marathon.

We offer separate classes for adults, children and women-only as well as private lessons.

Ali has been running ad hoc classes in Portree since 2010, using temporary venues until we secured the lease of our current premises from Skye Camanachd Social Club in January 2019. This means we now have a fully equipped, permanent gym complete with boxing ring.

The difference in my daughter Arriayn since she started training with Alli and Skye Muay Thai is phenomenal.. Highly recommended

Gordon Brechin

Training under Ali Simpson at Skye Muay Thai was an incredible experience. He is an amazingly skilled coach who is highly technical, and a wonderful motivator. I couldn’t recommend Skye Muay Thai enough; either for international travellers like myself, or Skye and mainland locals looking to improve their fitness and well-being, through to those wanting to fight Muay Thai. Can’t wait to bring the whole family back next trip mate... All the best wishes
